SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Nancy Kay Olsen, who passed away on
4
March 19, 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen was born to Thomas C. and Flossea K.
6
"Kathryn" (McKinney) Wanless in Springfield on March 11, 1950;
7
she spent her childhood living in various places, including
8
California and Las Vegas, Nevada, before returning to her
9
birthplace during her senior year of high school, and she
10
consequently graduated from Springfield High School before
11
returning to Las Vegas; she married Wm. Richard "Rick" Olsen
12
in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 22, 1970; and

13

WHEREAS, After spending three years in Minneapolis, Nancy
14
Olsen and her husband Rick moved to Williamsville, Illinois to
15
be closer to her family; while there, she continued her
16
education, taking accounting classes at Lincoln Land Community
17
College; she invested her heart and soul into her family,
18
managing various family businesses with a grace and efficiency
19
that was admired by all who knew her, and her work included a
20
nursery at Sangamon Prairie Pork Farm in Williamsville, the
21
Country Corner General Store, previously known as Bud's
22
Corner, in Springfield, and the Lithia Resort in Shelbyville
23
for more than 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen's faith was an integral part of her
2
life, which she instilled in her family, guiding them with a
3
gentle and steadfast hand; while residing in Williamsville,
4
she was an active member of the Sherman United Methodist
5
Church; and

6

WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen's interests were as varied as they
7
were fulfilling; she treasured spending time with her family,
8
and her hobbies included traveling to Yuma, Arizona, immersing
9
herself in the pages of a good book, meticulously piecing
10
together puzzles, and tending to her cherished plants; and

11

WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen was an exemplar of love and kindness
12
and possessed a zest for life and a love of learning; and

13

WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen was preceded in death by her parents;
14
her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth McKinney; her son, Richard
15
Thomas Olsen; her cousins-in-law, Kenny Jacobs, Bob Caudill,
16
and Dawn Ketchum; her brother-in-law, Daniel Olsen; and her
17
cousins, Susan Kilby, John Jacobs, and Tayna Jacobs; and

18

WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen is survived by her life partner of
19
more than 50 years, Rick; her daughter, Cynthia (Andy) Alepra;
20
her grandchildren, Paige and Aden Parmenter; her
21
step-grandchildren, Kenneth Alepra and Joseph Alepra; her

sister, Karen (Thomas) Frere; her nephews, Thomas (Heidi)
2
Frere, Christopher (Jennifer) Frere, Jeffery (Anna) Olsen,
3
Chad (Kayci) Olsen, and Tucker (Rachel) Olsen; her niece,
4
Elizabeth (Matt) Starman; her stepbrother, Vernon (Elsie)
5
Brink; her cousins, James Ketchum, Charles (Paula) Ketchum,
6
and Mary Jacobs; her siblings-in-law, Nancy Jeanne Zins, Susan
7
(John) Atchison, Micky Caudill, and Mark (Maria) Olsen; and
8
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and
9
extended cousins; therefore, be it

10

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12
Nancy Kay Olsen and extend our sincere condolences to her
13
family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14
further

15

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16
presented to the family of Nancy Olsen as an expression of our
17
deepest sympathy.
