SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3
recognize the Village of Brookfield on the occasion of the
4
rededication of its Bicentennial Liberty Bell in honor of
5
celebrating America 250, the United States' semiquincentennial
6
anniversary; and
7
WHEREAS, For America's bicentennial celebration in 1976,
8
the Village of Brookfield received a full-size replica of the
9
famous Liberty Bell, made by the same company, Whitechapel
10
Bell Foundry of London, that cast the original bell in 1752;
11
and
12
WHEREAS, The Village of Brookfield's Bicentennial Liberty
13
Bell was one of approximately 100, and one of just three in
14
Illinois, which were made available to cities and towns across
15
the United States to commemorate the nation's bicentennial in
16
1976; and
17
WHEREAS, The Village of Brookfield obtained its
18
Bicentennial Liberty Bell thanks to a group of residents who
19
formed the Brookfield Bicentennial Committee in 1975 to raise
20
the $14,300 needed to purchase and ship the bell;
21
subsequently, the committee raised money for the bell by
22
selling bell-shaped decals and bumper stickers, and they were

further assisted by fundraisers hosted by community
2
organizations; and
3
WHEREAS, The Village of Brookfield received its
4
Bicentennial Liberty Bell on June 28, 1976, and it was
5
dedicated during a ceremonial bell-ringing event with U.S.
6
Congressman Ed Derwinski of the 4th Congressional District of
7
Illinois, which included Brookfield, on July 4, 1976; and
8
WHEREAS, As part of its 4th of July festivities, the
9
Village of Brookfield plans to rededicate the Bicentennial
10
Liberty Bell, located in the southwest corner of Kiwanis Park,
11
on July 4, 2026; therefore, be it
12
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
13
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the
14
Village of Brookfield on the rededication of its Bicentennial
15
Liberty Bell in honor of celebrating America 250, the United
16
States' semiquincentennial anniversary; and be it further
17
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18
presented to the Village of Brookfield as an expression of our
19
esteem and respect.
