SENATE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Orlando Rivas of Buffalo Grove, who
4
passed away on April 24, 2026; and
5
WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas served as a parole officer in
6
Chicago for 25 years; in retirement, he worked as an
7
after-school security guard at Buffalo Grove High School for
8
the past year; during his short time in this role, he was noted
9
for his ability to connect with every kind of student,
10
building meaningful relationships across the entire school
11
community while making students feel seen, valued, and
12
supported; and
13
WHEREAS, On the afternoon of April 21, 2026, while helping
14
students cross the street at Buffalo Grove High School,
15
Orlando Rivas shielded students from danger in the moments
16
after a car accident, exuding a quiet heroism of selflessness
17
and courage; in doing so, he sustained injuries that
18
ultimately cost him his life; and
19
WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas, even after his passing, continued
20
to save lives as an organ donor, serving as a final, powerful
21
testament to his generosity and his way of always supporting
22
others; and

WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas was an amazing man, husband,
2
father, and community member, and his legacy of connection,
3
courage, and selflessness will live on through his family,
4
friends, and the Buffalo Grove High School community; and
5
WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas is survived by his wife, Erin, and
6
four children; therefore, be it
7
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9
Orlando Rivas and extend our sincere condolences to his
10
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11
further
12
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13
presented to the family of Orlando Rivas as an expression of
14
our deepest sympathy.
