SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of David L. "Dave" Shaw Sr. of
4
Springfield, who passed away on March 29, 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, Dave Shaw was born in Springfield to Charles
6
Merle and Ella Louise (Koehn) Shaw on December 5, 1948; he
7
married Donna Jean Stout on October 6, 1989; and

8

WHEREAS, Dave Shaw served during the Vietnam War with the
9
U.S. Marine Corps out of Base Camp Lejeune from April 1966
10
through June 1969 and held the rank of lance corporal with E
11
Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division; he
12
was awarded numerous awards and recognitions, including the
13
Purple Heart with two Gold Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal
14
with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service
15
Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Combat Action
16
Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal; and

17

WHEREAS, Dave Shaw was devoted to giving back; he served
18
as chairman of Toys for Tots and as vice president of the
19
VietNow; he accumulated pages of thank you letters from
20
organizations he supported throughout his life and quietly
21
made a difference in the lives of many; and

WHEREAS, Dave Shaw was preceded in death by his wife,
2
Donna; his parents; his son, Bryan Shaw; his granddaughter,
3
Donna Marie Colon; and his brothers, Russell Chase, James
4
Shaw, and Kenneth Shaw; and

5

WHEREAS, Dave Shaw is survived by his children, Tracy
6
(Trent) Peterman and David L. Shaw Jr.; his stepdaughters,
7
Marla (Rod) Matticks, Cindy (Jeremy) Carey, and Mary Jo
8
Conrad; his grandchildren, Carson and Jayda Peterman, Timothy
9
O'Bryan, Jeremy Matticks (Murk MatteBlack), Trevor Matticks,
10
Brianna (Matt) Dondanville, Andrea Carey (Justin Adams),
11
Kaylee (Scott) Strickler, Madison Carey, Gaberial Conrad
12
(Gabriella Davis), and JoAnn Louise Schanz; his
13
great-grandchildren, Henry, William, and Emma Dondanville and
14
Ivy Mae Strickler; his sisters, Rose Chase and Sandra Shaw;
15
and his brothers, Bobby (Sue) Shaw and Michael (Carol) Shaw;
16
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
18
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19
David L. "Dave" Shaw Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to
20
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21
further

22

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23
presented to the family of Dave Shaw as a symbol of our deepest
