SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3
congratulate the Retired State Employees Association (RSEA) on
4
the occasion of its 50th anniversary of advocating for and
5
protecting the rights and benefits of state retirees, their
6
spouses, and survivors; and

7

WHEREAS, RSEA is a not-for-profit corporation under the
8
General Not for Profit Corporation Act of the State of
9
Illinois, whose Articles of Incorporation were filed with the
10
Illinois Secretary of State on September 27, 1976, to support
11
and protect the pension, other retirement benefits and the
12
general welfare of our state retirees, their spouses, and
13
survivors; and

14

WHEREAS, RSEA members are retired state employees who have
15
given years of dedicated service to the State of Illinois; and

16

WHEREAS, RSEA membership has grown to over 9,000 strong
17
with retirees from the State Employees Retirement System
18
(SERS), the Judges Retirement System (JRS), and the General
19
Assembly Retirement System (GARS); and

20

WHEREAS, RSEA is governed by a volunteer board, which
21
includes a president, 1st and 2nd vice presidents, treasurer,

secretary, and appointed board members, all of whom are state
2
retirees or retiree spouses; and

3

WHEREAS, RSEA has used that strength to protect the rights
4
and benefits of state retirees, their spouses, and survivors
5
by maintaining reputable and effective representation at the
6
state capitol to support required improvements in state
7
provided benefits and vigorously oppose legislation, which
8
would diminish state pensions and insurance benefits, tax
9
retirement income, or divert pension funds from their sole
10
purpose of providing benefits to state retirees; and

11

WHEREAS, RSEA has monthly membership meetings in
12
Springfield with speakers presenting on diverse topics of
13
interest to its members, including elected state officials,
14
candidates for governor, senators, representatives, FBI,
15
Alzheimer's Association, CMS, SERS, Age Linc and the State
16
Fair Manager to name a few; members unable to attend the
17
Springfield meeting may watch the recorded videos on YouTube
18
or the RSEA website; and

19

WHEREAS, RSEA provides a monthly newsletter, The Reporter,
20
to all of its members via email or the USPS, containing timely
21
articles of interest to retirees, their spouses, and
22
survivors; and

WHEREAS, RSEA provides members with a website containing
2
articles on items of interest, monthly meeting or event
3
information, and access to the members only portion where
4
members can view videos of past monthly meetings and read past
5
newsletters; therefore, be it

6

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
7
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the
8
Retired State Employees Association on its 50th anniversary of
9
advocating for and protecting the rights and benefits of state
10
retirees, their spouses, and survivors; and be it further

11

RESOLVED, That we extend our best wishes to RSEA for
12
continued success protecting and supporting state retirees,
13
their spouses, and survivors; and be it further

14

RESOLVED, That we thank all members of RSEA for their many
15
years of faithful service to the people of Illinois; and be it
16
further

17

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18
presented to the Retired State Employees Association as an
19
expression of our esteem and respect.
