SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Porter McNeil of Moline, who passed
4
away on September 12, 2025; and

5

WHEREAS, Porter McNeil, the son of Donald and Nancy
6
McNeil, was born in Moline on December 5, 1959; he graduated
7
from Moline High School in 1978; he received a bachelor's
8
degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and a
9
master's degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the
10
University of Illinois at Springfield; he married Mary Carlin
11
in Davenport, Iowa on September 23, 1989; and

12

WHEREAS, Porter McNeil worked as a public affairs and
13
communications consultant for dozens of political campaigns,
14
including serving as a communications consultant for the
15
Democratic Party of Illinois in 2024 and as Illinois
16
communications director for the Kerry-Edwards presidential
17
campaign in 2004; and

18

WHEREAS, Porter McNeil appeared on WHBF-TV's Sunday
19
political talk show 4 the Record 70 times since 2016, and he
20
also served on the Rock Island County Board; and

21

WHEREAS, Porter McNeil loved spending time at the family

cottage on Lake Michigan, enjoying quiet mornings on the porch
2
with his coffee and newspapers and endless summer days spent
3
swimming, sailing, taking in sunsets, and making connections
4
with family and friends; he was an avid swimmer, hitting the
5
100 plus mile club at the Moline YMCA several years in a row
6
and competing in various Masters meets over the years; he was
7
also a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan; and

8

WHEREAS, Porter McNeil's eternal positivity, loyalty, and
9
knack for finding common ground with all he encountered forged
10
a myriad of connections and valued friendships; his life was
11
grounded by his love of family and his strong conviction to do
12
good; and

13

WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Porter McNeil was
14
survived by his wife, Mary; his children, James (Michelle)
15
McNeil, Jack (Kamelotte) McNeil, and Ellie McNeil; one
16
grandson; his siblings, Mitch (Pam) McNeil, Doug McNeil, Chris
17
(Annie) McNeil, and Liz (Jerry) Gill; and many nieces,
18
nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; therefore, be it

19

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
20
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21
Porter McNeil and extend our sincere condolences to his
22
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
23
further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2
presented to the family of Porter McNeil as an expression of
3
our deepest sympathy.
