SENATE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Michael B. Dickens, who passed away on
4
August 6, 2025; and
5
WHEREAS, Michael Dickens, the first of five children of
6
Eleanor D. Dickens, was born on October 17, 1952; he was raised
7
in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, where he also attended Highland
8
Park Elementary School; he graduated from De Matha Catholic
9
High School in Hyattsville, Maryland in 1970, and he received
10
a bachelor's degree from Monmouth College in Monmouth,
11
Illinois in 1974, playing football at both institutions; he
12
married Debra Whitaker on December 29, 1973, and together they
13
raised their children, Asha and Jabari, in the South Shore
14
neighborhood of Chicago; and
15
WHEREAS, Michael Dickens worked at W.R. Grace and Company
16
and Holy Angels Catholic School, where he left an indelible
17
mark on his students, before retiring from AT&T in 2010; and
18
WHEREAS, Michael Dickens was a sports enthusiast
19
throughout his life, and he enjoyed playing tennis,
20
pickleball, basketball, and football; and
21
WHEREAS, Michael Dickens, while not a linguist, was fluent

in his love language of caring for his family and home; and
2
WHEREAS, Michael Dickens is survived by his wife of 51
3
years, Debra; his children, Asha and Jabari; his mother,
4
Eleanor Stewart; his siblings, Darius Dickens, Kevin Young,
5
and April (Kenneth) Prophet; his nieces and nephews; his
6
cousins; his friends; and his former coworkers; therefore, be
7
it
8
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
9
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10
Michael B. Dickens and extend our sincere condolences to his
11
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12
further
13
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14
presented to the family of Michael Dickens as an expression of
15
our deepest sympathy.
