SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Tineke Cornelia "Trijntje" Schouten,
4
who passed away on November 28, 2025; and

5

WHEREAS, Tineke Schouten was born to Dirk Schouten and
6
Trijntje Walst in Bersingerhorn in North Holland in the
7
Netherlands on January 26, 1931; she immigrated to the United
8
States on April 13, 1956, sponsored by the Houck family of Oak
9
Park, and she became a United States citizen in 1977; and

10

WHEREAS, Tineke Schouten worked as an executive
11
administrative assistant at Marsh and McLennan, Inc.; she also
12
worked at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital, now known as
13
Midwestern University, and the Chicago College of Osteopathic
14
Medicine; additionally, she became a realtor and real estate
15
broker for Century 21; and

16

WHEREAS, Tineke Schouten was a member of a variety of
17
organizations, including the Dutch Immigrant Society, the
18
Knickerbocker Society, First Congregational Church, the Art
19
Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian Institute, and the
20
Wilderness Society; she held her realtor license in the State
21
of Florida, where she was a member of Meadowbrook Church, the
22
Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Ocala,

Florida, and the HOA in the subdivision where she had retired;
2
she was a notary public and a founding member, along with Dr.
3
Mildred C. Harris, of God First Ministries, and she was
4
awarded Signatures of Prolific Women in 2025; and

5

WHEREAS, Tineke Schouten was a woman of deep faith; her
6
light and joy were contagious; and

7

WHEREAS, Tineke Schouten was preceded in death by her
8
parents; her sisters, Grietje Lewis and Herma Lengkeek; and
9
her niece, Margriet Milders; and

10

WHEREAS, Tineke Schouten is survived by her niece, Julie
11
(Mike) Kennedy; her nephews, Dirk (Teresa) Lewis, Tom (Leslie
12
Carmona) Lewis, and Olaf Milders; her great-nieces, Brenda
13
(Henry) Alarco, Eve (Cody) Kraft, Lydia (Dirk) Louwter, and
14
Isabella; her great-nephews, Joshua, Micheal (Heather), Luke,
15
and Maarten (Thailita); her great-great-niece, Sophia; and her
16
great-great-nephews, Lucas, Luuk, and Cooper; therefore, be it

17

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
18
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19
Tineke Cornelia "Trijntje" Schouten and extend our sincere
20
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21
her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2
presented to the family of Tineke Schouten as an expression of
3
our deepest sympathy.
