SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of William R. "Bill" Groves of Peoria,
4
who passed away on May 22, 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, Bill Groves, the son of William A. and Elizabeth
6
A. (Raistrick) Groves, was born in Peoria on March 2, 1955; he
7
married Katherine Herschelman on March 3, 1990; and

8

WHEREAS, Bill Groves served as a proud member of the
9
International Union of Operating Engineers Local 649 for more
10
than 50 years; he retired in 2015 with 40 years of active
11
service, the last 15 of which were spent with him serving as
12
apprenticeship coordinator; and

13

WHEREAS, Bill Groves was an Eagle Scout who enjoyed
14
spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating; he
15
loved being with his family, including attending his
16
granddaughters' sporting and music events, and he especially
17
enjoyed having family time on his boat at Lake of the Ozarks
18
and taking island vacations with his wife; and

19

WHEREAS, Bill Groves will be remembered as a loving and
20
devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and

WHEREAS, Bill Groves was preceded in death by his parents;
2
his son, Nicholas Groves; and his father-in-law, Lyndal
3
Herschelman; and

4

WHEREAS, Bill Groves is survived by his wife, Katherine
5
Groves; his children, Jennifer (Don) Allison and Austin
6
(Lindsey Schafer) Groves; his grandchildren, McKinley and
7
Daniella; his sister, Marilyn Magiera; and his mother-in-law,
8
Mary Herschelman; therefore, be it

9

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11
William R. "Bill" Groves and extend our sincere condolences to
12
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13
further

14

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15
presented to the family of Bill Groves as an expression of our
16
deepest sympathy.
