A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning family law and juvenile law.

Health insurance coverage for adoptive children.

Provides that if an adoptive child is eligible for coverage under the Medicaid program and as a dependent under the adoptive parent's private health insurance, the adoptive parent may opt out of the adoptive child's participation in the Medicaid program. Requires the adoptive parent to file a request with the department of child services (department) to opt out of the adoptive child's participation in the Medicaid program. Provides that, before approving an adoptive parent's request, the department shall ensure that the adoptive child is eligible for coverage under the adoptive parent's private health insurance and will not experience a lapse in coverage while changing from Medicaid to private health insurance.
