Plain English Breakdown

The official source material does not provide specific details on the current law's requirements for teacher-to-child ratios, student learning standards, and provisions for integrating children from other state and federally funded preschool programs. Therefore, it is unclear if these aspects are affected by this bill or remain unchanged.

Modifying Enrollment Rules for Statewide Preschool Program

This bill modifies the rules related to the enrollment of eligible children in the statewide preschool program, specifically adding requirements for prioritizing homeless children on waiting lists.

What This Bill Does

  • Adds new requirements for local preschool programs to prioritize homeless children on waiting lists if there is a waitlist.
  • Defines 'homeless individual' using federal law criteria.

Who It Names or Affects

  • Children who are homeless and want to join preschool programs.
  • Local school districts that run preschool programs.
  • The state board of education which sets the rules for these programs.

Terms To Know

Homeless individual

Waiting list
A list of people who want to join a program but cannot because there are not enough spots available.

Limits and Unknowns
