NEW

SECTION

.

483A.8D

Disabled

veteran

——

deer

1

hunting

license.

2

A

resident

of

the

state

who

has

served

in

the

armed

forces

3

of

the

United

States

on

federal

active

duty

and

who

was

4

disabled

during

the

veteran’s

military

service,

as

verified

5

by

the

department

of

veterans

affairs,

may

use

a

deer

hunting

6

license

and

tag

issued

to

the

person

during

any

established

7

deer

hunting

season

for

which

the

method

of

take

for

the

season

8

being

hunted

corresponds

with

the

method

of

take

authorized

9

by

the

license.

While

hunting

pursuant

to

this

section,

the

10

person

shall,

upon

request

of

a

peace

officer,

display

proof

of

11

the

person’s

resident

and

disability

status

in

the

same

manner

12

and

subject

to

the

same

procedures

and

penalties

as

provided

13

by

section

483A.19.

As

used

in

this

section,

“disabled”

means

14

entitled

to

a

service

connected

rating

under

38

U.S.C.

ch.

11.

This

bill

relates

to

deer

hunting

privileges

of

disabled

19

veterans.

Under

the

bill,

a

resident

who

served

in

the

armed

20

forces

of

the

United

States

on

federal

active

duty

who

was

21

disabled

during

that

veteran’s

military

service

may

use

a

deer

22

hunting

license

and

tag

issued

to

the

resident

during

any

23

established

deer

hunting

season

for

which

the

method

of

take

24

authorized

for

the

season

being

hunted

corresponds

with

the

25

method

of

take

authorized

by

the

license.

26

A

person

hunting

in

such

manner

shall,

upon

request

of

a

27

peace

officer,

display

proof

of

the

person’s

resident

and

28

disability

status.

A

person

who

fails

to

provide

the

necessary

29

documentation

is

guilty

of

a

simple

misdemeanor

punishable

as

30

a

scheduled

fine

of

$30.

A

person

charged

with

failing

to

31

produce

the

necessary

documentation

may

avoid

conviction

if

the

32

person

produces

in

court,

within

a

reasonable

time,

proof

of

33

the

person’s

resident

and

disability

status.
