1.
Section
256.11,
subsection
5,
paragraph
b,
Code

2025,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

(1)
Five
units
of
the
social
studies
including

instruction
in
voting
statutes
and
procedures,
voter

registration
requirements,
the
use
of
paper
ballots
and
voting
5
systems
in
the
election
process,
and
the
method
of
acquiring

and
casting
an
absentee
ballot.
All
students
shall
complete
a

minimum
of
one-half
one
unit
of
United
States
government
and

one
unit
of
United
States
history.

The

of

States
government
shall

the

bill
relates
to

The
bill
requires
students
enrolled
in
grades
9
through
12
2
in
school
districts,
accredited
nonpublic
schools,
charter
3
schools,
and
innovation
zone
schools
to
complete
a
minimum
of
4
one
unit
of
United
States
government
instruction
as
part
of
the
5
social
studies
curriculum.
The
bill
provides
that
the
United
6
States
government
instruction
shall
include
instruction
related
7
to
civics.
Under
current
law,
students
enrolled
in
grades
9
8
through
12
in
school
districts
and
accredited
nonpublic
schools
9
are
required
to
complete
a
minimum
of
one-half
unit
of
United
10
States
government
instruction.
