WHEREAS,
the
University
of
Northern
Iowa
was

established
in
1876
in
Cedar
Falls
as
the
Iowa
State
4
Normal
School
to
educate
teachers
and
strengthen
public
5
education
in
the
state
of
Iowa;
and
6
WHEREAS,
the
institution
grew
and
evolved
over
7
time
as
the
Iowa
State
Teachers
College
and
the
State
8
College
of
Iowa
before
becoming
the
University
of
9
Northern
Iowa
in
1967;
and
10
WHEREAS,
for
150
years
the
University
of
Northern
11
Iowa
has
remained
committed
to
educating
Iowans
and
12
preparing
graduates
who
serve
communities
across
all
99
13
counties
of
the
state;
and
14
WHEREAS,
the
university
aligns
its
programs
with
15
Iowa’s
workforce
needs,
preparing
students
for
16
high-demand
careers
that
support
the
state’s
economy
17
and
future
growth;
and
18
WHEREAS,
the
University
of
Northern
Iowa
continues
19
to
prioritize
accessibility
and
affordability,
helping
20
ensure
that
Iowa
students
and
families
have
access
21
to
a
high-quality
public
university
education
with
22
manageable
levels
of
student
debt;
and
23
WHEREAS,
the
year
2026
also
marks
the
100th
24
anniversary
of
the
university’s
campanile
and
the
25
50th
anniversary
of
the
UNIDome,
two
landmarks
that

the
history
and
spirit
of
the
university

community;
and

WHEREAS,
the
University
of
Northern
Iowa
and

its
alumni
have
made
lasting
contributions
to
the

educational,
cultural,
and
economic
life
of
the
state

of
Iowa;
NOW
THEREFORE,
6
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
7
the
House
of
Representatives
recognizes
and
celebrates
8
the
150th
anniversary
of
the
establishment
of
the
9
University
of
Northern
Iowa
and
commends
the
university
10
for
a
century
and
a
half
of
service
to
the
state
of
11
Iowa;
and
12
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
House
of
13
Representatives
expresses
its
appreciation
to
the
14
students,
faculty,
staff,
alumni,
and
supporters
of
15
the
University
of
Northern
Iowa
for
their
continued
16
commitment
to
educating
Iowans
and
strengthening
17
communities
throughout
the
state;
and
18
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
a
copy
of
this
19
resolution
be
presented
to
the
leadership
of
the
20
University
of
Northern
Iowa
in
recognition
of
this
21
historic
milestone.
