amended

to

read

as

follows:

individual

who

submits

an

application

pursuant

to

subsection

1

shall,

at

a

minimum,

submit

proof

of

successful

completion

of

a

two-year

or

four-year

police

science

or

5

criminal

justice

program

at

an

accredited

educational

6

institution

in

this

state

approved

by

the

academy.

the

general

This

bill

relates

to

short

course

law

enforcement

training

requirements.

Currently,

an

individual

who

is

not

a

certified

law

enforcement

officer

may

apply

for

attendance

at

a

short

course

14

of

study

at

an

approved

law

enforcement

training

program

if

15

the

individual

is

sponsored

by

a

law

enforcement

agency.

An

16

individual

who

submits

an

application

shall,

at

a

minimum,

17

submit

proof

of

successful

completion

of

a

two-year

or

18

four-year

police

science

or

criminal

justice

program

at

an

19

accredited

educational

institution

in

this

state

approved

by

20

the

academy.

The

bill

removes

the

requirement

that

the

two-year

or

22

four-year

police

science

or

criminal

justice

program

must

be

23

from

an

accredited

educational

institution

in

Iowa,

but

retains

24

the

requirement

that

the

two-year

or

four-year

police

science

25

or

criminal

justice

program

be

completed

at

an

accredited

26

educational

institution

approved

by

the

academy.
