competitions.

1.
For
purposes
of
this
section,
“unattached
competitor”
3
means
a
student
who
does
not
represent
a
school
and
does
not
4
wear
a
school
uniform
or
other
apparel
identifying
the
student
5
with
a
school.

2.
A
student
in
grades
nine
through
twelve
enrolled
in
a
7
school
district
or
accredited
nonpublic
school
may
participate
8
in
an
athletic
contest
or
competition
that
is
not
sponsored
by
9
the
student’s
school,
including
a
contest
or
competition
in
10
which
collegiate
students
participate,
so
long
as
the
student
11
participates
only
as
an
unattached
competitor.

A
school
shall
not
provide
coaching,
transportation,

or
financial
support
to
a
student
related
to
the
student’s
14
participation
in
an
athletic
contest
or
competition
as
an

unattached
competitor.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance

the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
establishes
requirements
for
student
participation
20
in
athletic
contests
or
competitions
that
are
not
sponsored

by
the
student’s
school.
The
bill
provides
that
a
student
in
22
grades
9
through
12
who
participates
in
a
non-school-sponsored
23
athletic
contest
or
competition,
including
contests
or
24
competitions
in
which
collegiate
students
participate,
must
do
25
so
as
an
unattached
competitor.

The
bill
defines
“unattached
competitor”
as
a
student
who
27
does
not
represent
a
school
and
does
not
wear
a
school
uniform
28
or
other
apparel
identifying
the
student
with
a
school.
The
29
bill
further
prohibits
a
school
from
providing
coaching,
30
transportation,
or
financial
support
to
a
student
related
to
31
the
student’s
participation
in
a
non-school-sponsored
athletic
32
contest
or
competition
as
an
unattached
competitor.
