member

of

the

assembly

except

the

the

the

speaker

the

leader

the

shall

receive

an

annual

salary

Members

from

Polk

county

shall

receive

an

amount

per

day

equal

to

three-fourths

of

the

per

diem

of

the

non-Polk

county

members.

Each

member

shall

receive

a

three

four

hundred

fifty

dollar

per

month

allowance

for

legislative

27

district

constituency

postage,

travel,

telephone

costs,

and

other

expenses.

Travel

expenses

shall

be

paid

at

the

rate

established

by

section

8A.363

for

actual

travel

in

going

to

and

returning

from

the

seat

of

government

by

the

nearest

traveled

route

for

not

more

than

one

time

per

week

during

a

legislative

session

unless

the

general

assembly

otherwise

provides.

salaries

existed

during

the

preceding

calendar

year,

shall

be

adjusted

by

an

amount

equal

to

the

average

of

the

annual

cost-of-living

pay

adjustments

negotiated

for

the

members

of

the

collective

bargaining

units

represented

by

the

state

police

officers

council

labor

union,

the

American

federation

of

state,

county,

and

municipal

employees,

and

the

Iowa

united

professionals

for

the

annual

cost-of-living

pay

adjustment

received

by

executive

branch

noncontract

state

employees

during

the

preceding

fiscal

beginning

1,

1997

or

percent,

whichever

For

the

calendar

year

2000,

during

the

month

of

January,

the

annual

salaries

of

members

officers

adjusted

by

an

DIVISION

I

LEGISLATIVE

SALARIES.

The

bill

increases

8

the

salaries

for

members

of

the

general

assembly

by

$20,000

9

per

year

and

increases

the

monthly

allowance

for

legislative

10

district

constituency

postage,

travel,

telephone

costs,

and

11

other

expenses

by

$150.

The

bill

increases

the

salary

for

12

the

speaker

of

the

house,

presiding

officer

of

the

senate,

13

and

majority

and

minority

leaders

of

each

chamber

by

$30,000,

14

and

increases

the

salary

for

the

president

pro

tempore

of

the

15

senate

and

speaker

pro

tempore

of

the

house

by

$22,000.

The

bill

also

applies

a

cost-of-living

adjustment

the
