Section

1.

The

following

amendment

to

the

Constitution

of

1

the

State

of

Iowa

is

proposed:

1.

Section

3

of

Article

III

of

the

Constitution

of

the

State

3

of

Iowa

is

repealed

and

the

following

adopted

in

lieu

thereof:

Sec.

3.

Representatives

——

term

limitation.

The

members

of

5

the

house

of

representatives

shall

be

chosen

every

second

year,

6

by

the

qualified

electors

of

their

respective

districts,

and

7

their

term

of

office

shall

commence

on

the

first

day

of

January

8

next

after

their

election,

and

continue

two

years,

and

until

9

their

successors

are

elected

and

qualified.

A

person

first

10

elected

to

the

house

of

representatives

for

a

term

commencing

11

on

or

after

January

1,

2029,

shall

not

be

elected

for

a

term

as

12

representative

if

the

term

would

result

in

the

person

serving

13

more

than

twelve

consecutive

years

in

the

general

assembly,

and

14

shall

not

be

elected

for

two

years

next

after

serving

twelve

consecutive

years.

Section

5

of

Article

III

of

the

Constitution

of

the

State

of

Iowa

is

repealed

and

the

following

adopted

in

lieu

thereof:

Sec.

5.

Senators

qualifications

term

limitation.

Senators

shall

be

chosen

for

the

term

of

four

years,

at

20

the

same

time

and

place

as

representatives;

they

shall

be

21

twenty-five

years

of

age,

and

possess

the

qualifications

of

22

representatives

as

to

residence

and

citizenship.

A

person

23

first

elected

to

the

senate

for

a

term

commencing

on

or

after

24

January

1,

2029,

shall

not

be

elected

for

a

term

as

senator

if

25

the

term

would

result

in

the

person

serving

more

than

twelve

26

consecutive

years

in

the

general

assembly,

and

shall

not

be

27

elected

for

two

years

next

after

serving

twelve

consecutive

28

years.

REFERRAL

AND

PUBLICATION.

The

foregoing

proposed

amendment

to

the

Constitution

of

the

State

of

Iowa

is

referred

to

the

general

assembly

to

be

chosen

at

the

next

general

32

election

for

members

of

the

general

assembly,

and

shall

be

33

published

as

provided

by

law

for

three

months

previous

to

the

34

date

of

that

election.

amendment

amendment

provides

that

a

person

shall

not

be

elected

for

a

term

as

a

senator

or

representative

if

the

term

would

result

in

the

person

serving

more

than

twelve

consecutive

years

in

the

general

assembly.

Additionally,

a

senator

or

representative

shall

not

be

elected

for

a

term

as

a

senator

or

representative

for

two

years

following

a

twelfth

consecutive

service
