Senator
Tom
Shipley
for
his

service

Iowa
Senate.

WHEREAS,
Senator
Tom
Shipley
was
first
elected
in
3
November
2014
and
has
proudly
served
in
the
Senate
ever
4
since;
and
5
WHEREAS,
Senator
Shipley
was
born
and
raised
in
6
Adams
County,
and
is
the
fifth
generation
of
his
family
7
to
be
involved
in
agriculture
in
Adams
County;
and
8
WHEREAS,
Senator
Shipley
earned
a
bachelor
of
9
science
degree
in
agricultural
education
from
Iowa
10
State
University
of
Science
and
Technology
and
devoted
11
much
of
his
life
to
agriculture,
including
working
as
12
a
livestock
production
specialist
for
Land
O’Lakes,
a
13
feed
department
manager
at
United
Farmers
Mercantile
14
Coop,
and
director
of
issues
and
policy
management
for
15
the
Iowa
Cattlemen’s
Association;
and
16
WHEREAS,
during
his
time
in
the
Senate,
Senator
17
Shipley
proudly
worked
on
promoting
and
protecting
18
agriculture
in
Iowa,
strengthening
rural
public
schools
19
and
communities,
and
making
the
state
a
better
place
20
for
families,
as
well
as
being
a
continuing
voice
for
21
rural
people
of
Iowa;
and
22
WHEREAS,
during
his
time
in
the
Senate,
Senator
23
Shipley
strongly
advocated
for
the
needs
of
rural
24
schools
by
ensuring
continued
funding
for
operational
25
sharing
and
transportation
equity,
was
instrumental
in
26
the
process
of
building
the
new
veterinary
diagnostic
27
lab
at
Iowa
State
University
of
Science
and
Technology,

increase
railroad
responsiveness
and
cooperation

throughout
this
state,
and
supported
historic
tax
cuts

to
give
the
state
a
competitive
edge;
and

WHEREAS,
during
his
Senate
tenure,
Senator
Shipley

has
served
on
the
Agriculture,
Appropriations,
5
Education,
Ethics
(chair),
Human
Resources,
Judiciary,
6
Labor
and
Business
Relations
(ranking
member),
Local
7
Government
(chair),
Natural
Resources
and
Environment
8
(vice
chair),
and
Transportation
(vice
chair)
9
committees;
the
Agriculture
and
Natural
Resources
10
Appropriations
Subcommittee
(chair);
and
the
Iowa
11
Commission
on
Interstate
Cooperation,
Flood
Mitigation

Board,
Prescription
Pain
Medication
Study
Committee,

and
Sex
Offender
Research
Council;
and

WHEREAS,
Senator
Shipley
has
further
demonstrated

his
commitment
to
civic
engagement
by
serving
his
16
community
on
the
Villisca
school
board,
the
Villisca
17
volunteer
ambulance
service,
the
First
Presbyterian
18
Church,
and
the
Iowa
Cattlemen’s
Association;
and
19
WHEREAS,
Senator
Shipley
is
grateful
to
the
citizens
20
of
his
district
for
placing
their
trust
in
him,
and
21
looks
forward
to
his
next
endeavors;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
honors
23
Senator
Tom
Shipley
for
his
years
of
public
service
to
24
his
community
and
to
the
state
of
Iowa
and
wishes
him
25
all
the
best
in
the
years
to
come.
