AN ACT designating the first Tuesday in May as precinct committee
person awareness day.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
Section 1. (a) The legislature finds that:
(1) The role of the precinct committee person is pivotal in organizing
local political efforts, engaging with community members and enhancing
voter participation, thus serving as the backbone of grassroots political
activity;
(2) precinct committee persons act as the essential link between
political parties and the public, which facilitates for an informed and active
voter bases, thus strengthening the democratic process;
(3) the contributions of precinct committee persons are instrumental
in influencing election outcomes and ensuring that community voices are
heard and represented;
(4) increasing awareness and participation in this vital role is essential
for maintaining robust democratic processes and ensuring that
communities are well represented and actively engaged; and
(5) many precinct committee persons gain the skills to become
candidates for various public offices, cultivating long-term civic leaders
and public servants.
(b) In recognition of these contributions, the first Tuesday in May of
each year is hereby designated as precinct committee person awareness
day.
(c) The purpose of this designation is to honor those who serve as
precinct committee persons, encourage citizen participation in this
important grassroots position and promote awareness of the role that
precinct committee persons play in strengthening local political
foundations and supporting the vibrant nature of our democratic society.
Sec. 2. State agencies, local governments, educational institutions and
civic organizations are encouraged to observe precinct committee person
awareness day with appropriate activities and programs that promote civic
engagement and public understanding of the duties and significance of
precinct committee persons.
Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
