AN ACT concerning wildlife and parks; requiring the secretary of
commerce and the secretary of wildlife and parks to jointly conduct a
feasibility study regarding a potential state purchase of acorns resort
and the designation of such location as a state park or the incorporation
of such location into the existing Milford state park in Geary county;
requiring the secretary of commerce and the secretary of wildlife and
parks to submit and present a report on such feasibility study to the
legislature and the governor during the 2027 legislative session.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
Section 1. (a) (1) The secretary of commerce and the secretary of
wildlife and parks shall jointly conduct a feasibility study regarding:
(A) A potential state purchase of acorns resort, located along Milford
lake, pursuant to K.S.A. 32-807, and amendments thereto; and
(B) the designation of such location as a state park pursuant to K.S.A.
32-837, and amendments thereto or the incorporation of such location into
the existing Milford state park in Geary county.
(2) The study shall consider developed assets, including, but not
limited to, facilities, infrastructure, economic impact statistics and any
other factors that may affect tourism at such location.
(b) The feasibility study shall be completed by January 1, 2027, and,
during the 2027 legislative session, the secretary of commerce and the
secretary of wildlife and parks, or designees thereof, shall submit and
present a joint report on such study, including the results and
recommendations derived therefrom to the house standing committee on
agriculture and natural resources, the house standing committee on
appropriations, the senate standing committee on agriculture and natural
resources, the senate standing committee on ways and means and the
governor.
Sec. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
publication in the statute book.
