HOUSE BILL No. 2781
AN ACT concerning the state historical society; authorizing the state historical society to
acquire the junior officers' quarters at Fort Dodge and provide for the use,
preservation, improvement, control and maintenance thereof.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
Section 1. (a) The junior officers' quarters at Fort Dodge located in
Ford County, Kansas, is hereby declared to possess a historical interest
to the state.
(b) The state historical society is authorized to acquire by
purchase or by gift, grant or donation the following described property:
A portion of the Northwest Quarter of Section 3, Township 27
South, Range 24 West of the 6th P.M., Ford County, Kansas, more
particularly described as: Commencing at the Northeast Corner of said
NW1/4, thence S29°05'43"W 1304.76 feet to the Point of Beginning,
THENCE S21°08'59"E 62.71 feet, THENCE S75°52'34"E 37.69 feet to
the apparent right of way of Sheridan Drive, THENCE along Sheridan
Drive S13°35'03"W 86.87 feet to the apparent right of way of Custer
Street, THENCE along Custer Street N75°56'13"W 74.00 feet,
THENCE N13°35'03"E 104.79 feet, THENCE N79°28'42"W 16.52
feet, THENCE N40°05'56"E 38.25 feet to the Point of Beginning,
containing 7640 square feet, more or less.
(c) Conveyance of the property described in this section shall not
be accepted by the executive director of the state historical society until
the attorney general approves the deed and determines that such
conveyance would convey such land in fee simple to the state of
Kansas. Such property shall be acquired in the name of the state of
Kansas.
(d) Upon acquisition of the property described in this section as
authorized by this act, such property shall be placed under the control
and management of the state historical society and the state historical
society shall establish and maintain such building and land as a
historical landmark. The state historical society may adopt rules and
regulations relating to the use, preservation, improvement, control and
maintenance of such property.
Sec. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
publication in the statute book.
