AN ACT relating to Black History Season. 1
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 2 IS CREATED TO 3
READ AS FOLLOWS: 4
(1) January 15 to April 4 of each year is designated as Black History Season 5
throughout the Commonwealth. 6
(2) The Governor shall proclaim January 15 to April 4 of each year as Black History 7
Season and shall encourage Kentuckians to: 8
(a) Acknowledge that all people of this Commonwealth and the United States 9
are the recipients of the wealth of history provided by Black culture; 10
(b) Recognize the importance of Black History Season as an opportunity to 11
reflect on the complex history while remaining hopeful and confident about 12
the path ahead; 13
(c) Acknowledge the significance of Black History Season as an important 14
opportunity to commemo rate the tremendous contributions of African 15
Americans to the history of the United States and this great Commonwealth; 16
(d) Encourage the celebration of Black History Season to provide a continuing 17
opportunity for all people to learn from the past and unde rstand the 18
experiences that have shaped the United States and this great 19
Commonwealth; and 20
(e) Move forward with purpose, united tirelessly as a nation "indivisible, with 21
liberty and justice for all." 22
