Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
SECTION 1.
A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 158 IS CREATED TO 3
READ AS FOLLOWS: 4
(1) (a) The Kentucky Department of Education, in coordination with the 5
Department for Public Health, the Kentucky Board of Licensed Diabetes 6
Educators, or any other entity the department deems appropriate, shall 7
develop Type 1 diabetes informational materials for the parents and 8
guardians of students.
The informational materials shall include but not be 9
limited to a: 10
1.
Add new section of KRS Chapter 216B to require each hospital licensed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to establish policies and procedures to improve care for sickle cell disease patients, develop programs to prevent and address addiction risks for sickle cell disease patients, and provide patients with education and resources by January 1, 2027.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 158 IS CREATED TO 3
READ AS FOLLOWS: 4
(1) (a) The Kentucky Department of Education, in coordination with the 5
Department for Public Health, the Kentucky Board of Licensed Diabetes 6
Educators, or any other entity the department deems appropriate, shall 7
develop Type 1 diabetes informational materials for the parents and 8
guardians of students. The informational materials shall include but not be 9
limited to a: 10
1. Description of Type 1 diabetes; 11
2. Description of the risk factors and warning signs associated with Type 12
1 diabetes; 13
3. Description of the need for screening for early detection of Type 1 14
diabetes using a blood autoantibody test; and 15
4. Recommendation for parents and guardians to immediate ly consult 16
with their child's primary care provider to develop an appropriate 17
treatment plan if they believe that their child displays warning signs 18
associated with Type 1 diabetes or has received positive early detection 19
screening results. Parents and gua rdians shall be advised that a 20
treatment plan may include consultation with, and examination by, a 21
specialty health care provider licensed to practice medicine or 22
osteopathy, including but not limited to an endocrinologist. 23
(b) The department shall make th e informational materials required by this 24
subsection available to school districts at no cost on the department's 25
website. 26
(2) Each local board of education and public charter school board of directors shall 27

make the Type 1 diabetes informational material s developed in accordance with 1
subsection (1) of this section available on the school or school district website, in 2
the main front entrance of each school, and in each family resource and youth 3
