AN ACT relating to volunteer fire departments. 1
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 95A IS CREATED TO 3
READ AS FOLLOWS: 4
(1) (a) There is hereby established in the State Treasury a trust and agency 5
account to be known as the volunteer fire department emergency medical 6
expenses fund. The fund shall consist of moneys received from grants, gifts, 7
state appropriations, and federal funds. 8
(b) The fund shall be administered by the Kentucky Fire Commission. 9
(c) Amounts deposited in the fund shall be disbursed exclusively for the 10
purposes set out in subsection (2) of this section. 11
(d) Notwithstanding KRS 45.229, fund amounts not expended at the close of the 12
fiscal year shall not lapse but shall be carried forward into the next fiscal 13
year. 14
(2) A volunteer fire department established under KRS Chapter 273 may apply to the 15
Kentucky Fire C ommission for funds from the volunteer fire department 16
emergency medical expense fund. The funds shall exclusively be used for: 17
(a) Purchasing emergency medical supplies, devices, or equipment; and 18
(b) Reimbursement of the costs: 19
1. Associated with replaci ng used emergency medical supplies, devices, 20
or equipment; and 21
2. Of any training, licensure, or certification of members of the volunteer 22
fire department related to the provision of emergency medical services. 23
(3) The commission shall endeavor to distribu te the available funds in an equitable 24
manner. 25
(4) The Kentucky Fire Commission may promulgate administrative regulations in 26
accordance with KRS Chapter 13A to implement this section. 27
