AN ACT relating to alpha-gal syndrome. 1
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 214 IS CREATED TO 3
READ AS FOLLOWS: 4
(1) The Cabinet for Health and Family Services shall include alpha -gal syndrome in 5
its list of noncommunicable diseases that health care providers and health care 6
facilities are required to report to a local health department or to the Department 7
for Public Health in accordance with KRS 214.010. 8
(2) The laboratory that confirms a positive test result of alpha -gal syndrome shall 9
submit the confirmation to the Department for Public Health wit hin five (5) days 10
using a reporting system required by the department. The laboratory shall use 11
diagnostic tests for alpha -gal syndrome that are recommended by the United 12
States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 13
(3) The department shall fol low up annually on reported cases of alpha -gal 14
syndrome using appropriate random sampling methods for confirming that 15
positive cases continue to meet the most current CDC surveillance case definition 16
of alpha-gal syndrome. 17
(4) The department shall submit a n annual report to the CDC summarizing its 18
findings related to the reporting and incidence of alpha-gal syndrome. 19
