A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Lewis County Vietnam Veterans 1
Memorial Bridge. 2
WHEREAS, it is the men and women of the Armed Forces who, since the inception 3
of this great nation, have won and defended the freedoms that we now enjoy; and 4
WHEREAS, the United States Armed Forces have intervened in countless conflicts 5
around the world to stop the spread of tyranny, overthrow murderous despots, and allow 6
the liberties we enjoy in this great nation to flourish around the world; and 7
WHEREAS, the places that our servicemen and servicewomen have gone to secure 8
and defend our liberties span the globe from Bunker Hill and the Alamo, to such far-flung 9
locales as Bastogne, Norm andy, Iwo Jima, Inchon, Saigon, Kuwait City, and Kandahar; 10
and 11
WHEREAS, time and again throughout this great nation's history, countless 12
soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines have served their country with courage, diligence, 13
and honor; and 14
WHEREAS, at home and on foreign battlefields, row upon row of headstones stand 15
as mute testimony to the courage and sacrifice of America's sons and daughters; and 16
WHEREAS, thousands of patriotic men and women have answered their nation's 17
call to service in times of great need, often giving the ultimate sacrifice; and 18
WHEREAS, our veterans deserve our gratitude and recognition for their devotion 19
and service to our nation and its citizens; and 20
WHEREAS, tragically, the brave veterans from the Vietnam War were often not 21
accorded the respect and gratitude they deserved when they returned home from that 22
conflict; and 23
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that this sometimes shameful lack of 24
appreciation be rectified through a tangible symbol, no matter how insignificant it might 25
be in comparison to the service rendered to our nation; 26
NOW, THEREFORE, 27
