A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. Memorial 1
Highway in Perry County. 2
WHEREAS, SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. was born on February 21, 1 946, to the 3
late John D. Spencer and Letha Oliver Spencer; and 4
WHEREAS, SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. honorably served his country in the 5
United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage, dedication, and 6
patriotism in defense of the freedoms enjoyed by all citizens; and 7
WHEREAS, while serving his country, SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. was awarded 8
the Bronze Star and numerous other Army achievement medals; and 9
WHEREAS, SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. was a retired surface coal miner who 10
loved his job; and 11
WHEREAS, SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. was a very humble and kind man who 12
was always full of life and never met a stranger; and 13
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the legacy and service of SSgt John "Pott" 14
Spencer, Jr. should be tangibly re cognized as a tribute to his military service, and as a 15
reminder to future generations of the sacrifices made by those who have served in the 16
Armed Forces of the United States; 17
NOW, THEREFORE, 18
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 19
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate a portion of Kentucky 20
Route 451 in Perry County, from the junction of Laurel Mountain Road, mile point 21
12.223, to Kentucky Route 28, mile point 19.946, as the "SSgt John "Pott" Spencer, Jr. 22
Memorial Highway" a nd shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, 23
erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 24
