A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the William Argus "Bill" Johnson Memorial 1
Highway in Rowan County. 2
WHEREAS, William Argus "Bill" Johnson was born on the 4th of July , 1926, to 3
Langley Johnson and Goldie Ellen (Bryant) Johnson; and 4
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson was inducted into the United States Army on September 5
14, 1944, in Huntington, West Virginia, during the climax of Allied operations to take 6
back Europe, days before Operation Market Garden; and 7
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson served alongside the men of Battery C of the 940th Field 8
Artillery Battalion; and 9
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson and the men of the 940th Field Artillery Battalion played 10
a role in liberating several towns and villa ges, and were among the first American troops 11
encountered by grateful European civilians; and 12
WHEREAS, following his faithful service and the end of World War II, Bill 13
Johnson was honorably discharged on August 1, 1946; and 14
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson left thes e earthly bounds on July 15, 1994, and now lies 15
next to his beloved wife Betty Jean (McDaniel) Johnson, who joined him in the Kingdom 16
of Heaven in 2015; and 17
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson represents the values of service, sacrifice, and quiet 18
leadership that continue to define our Commonwealth and this great Nation; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 21
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate a portion of Kentucky 22
Route 32 in Rowan County, from its intersection with Kentucky Route 173 to the Elliott 23
County line, as the "William Argus 'Bill' Johnson Memorial Highway" and shall, within 24
30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this 25
designation. 26
