A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Detective John Robert Weiss and Officer 1
Armand VanCleave, Sr., Memorial Overpasses in Jefferson County. 2
WHEREAS, John Robert Weiss began serving as a detective with the Shively 3
Police Department on August 30, 1984; and 4
WHEREAS, Detective John Robert Weiss was killed in the line of duty on 5
February 12, 1986, while working undercover in a narcotics investigation; and 6
WHEREAS, despite being severely wounded, Detective Weiss showed immense 7
courage and bravery by returning fire and wounding the perpetrator, which allowed the 8
assailant to be captured and brought to justice; and 9
WHEREAS, Detective Weiss sadly succumbe d to his injuries, and would later be 10
posthumously awarded a Master’s Degree in Community Development from the 11
University of Louisville, which his mother, Nimet Weiss, received in his honor; and 12
WHEREAS, Armand VanCleave, Sr. was an auxiliary officer serving in the Shively 13
Police Department who was struck and killed in an automobile accident on April 26, 14
1974, while transporting a heart attack victim to a local hospital; and 15
WHEREAS, Officer VanCleave would succumb to his injuries the next day, April 16
27, 1974, and was survived by his wife and his five children; and 17
WHEREAS, the city of Shively considers Detective John Robert Weiss and Officer 18
Armand VanCleave, Sr., to be honorable sons of the Commonwealth, and there is strong 19
local support to ensure that the y are recognized for their bravery and sacrifice while in 20
the line of duty; 21
NOW, THEREFORE, 22
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 23
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on I -264 west 24
bound over United States Route 31W in Jefferson County (Bridge #056B00264N) as the 25
"Detective John Robert Weiss Memorial Overpass" and shall, within 30 days of the 26
effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 27

Section 2. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on I -264 east 1
bound over United States Route 31W in Jefferson County (Bridge #056B00266 N) as the 2
"Officer Armand VanCleave, Sr., Memorial Overpass" and shall, within 30 days of the 3
effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 4
