A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Private Andrew Kuracka Memorial 1
Highway in Letcher County. 2
WHEREAS, Andrew Kuracka, the son of the late Anna and Metry Kuracka, was 3
born in Perry County, Kentucky, and was reared in the Letcher County community of Hot 4
Spot, which is now known as Premium; and 5
WHEREAS, Andrew Kuracka, the youngest of nine children, attended Whitesburg 6
High School before joining the United States Army in 1961; and 7
WHEREAS, after leaving the Army, Andrew Kuracka and his family eventually 8
moved to Slidell, Louisiana; and 9
WHEREAS, Andrew Kuracka was a truck driver and proud member of the 10
Teamsters Union, and he retired from CF Trucking Company in 2000; and 11
WHEREAS, Andrew Kuracka, passed away at his home in Slidell on August 7, 12
2022, at the age of 80; and 13
WHEREAS, Andrew Kuracka was survived by his wife of 61 years, Macile 14
Hammonds Kuracka; two daughters, Andrea Kuracka and Camilla Kuracka; a son, Travis 15
Kuracka, five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and 16
WHEREAS, in 2023, the Letcher County Fiscal Court adopted a Resolution 17
endorsing the designation of a portion of Kentucky Route 160 in Letcher County, near 18
Premium, in honor of Andrew Kuracka; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 21
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the portion of Kentucky 22
Route 160 in Letcher County, from mile point 19 to mile point 20, as the "Private 23
Andrew Kuracka Memorial Highway" and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of 24
this Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 25
