WHEREAS, Roger T. "Tucker" Daniel was born on August 30, 1939, to the late 3
Frances Colvin Short and Carl Daniel in Thealka, Kentucky; and 4
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel graduated with honors from Meade Memorial High 5
School in Williamsport, Kentucky, in 1957; and 6
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel started his career with Kentucky West Virginia Gas in 7
Prestonsburg, Kentucky, as an entry -level meter reader, and steadily rose in the ranks 8
until he was appointed president in 1990, a position he held until his retirement in 1996; 9
and 10
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel was elected to the office of Johnson County 11
judge/executive in 1998, and was reelected three times until he retired from the position 12
in 2018; and 13
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel took great pride in his position as judge/executive and 14
always tried to put his community first, as evidenced by his solving the county's c rippling 15
deficit and credit crisis in the first two years of his first term; and 16
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel's experience in the private sector, networking with state 17
officials to pass a pooling ordinance fee, and lobbying state and federal agencies to 18
improve the quality of life in Johnson County, showed immediate results; and 19
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel also obtained additional funding for volunteer fire 20
departments in the county, brought drastic improvements to water quality, updated sewer 21
lines, improved county r oads, and oversaw the construction and upgrade of the Johnson 22
County Judicial Center, Paintsville Post Office, Johnson County Senior Citizens Center, 23
and Johnson County Veteran's Referral Center; and 24
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel was deeply involved in the community outside of his 25
work as judge executive, participating in youth sports in the county, helping with the Boy 26
Scouts of America, and serving as the Executive Director of the Paintsville/Johnson 27

County Chamber of Commerce, President of the Kentucky Association of Counties, and a 1
member of the Kentucky mines and minerals board; and 2
WHEREAS, in honor of his service as judge/executive, Tucker Daniel was 3
distinguished as a member of the Kentucky GOP Hall of Fame in 2004; and 4
WHEREAS, at his death in 2019, Tucker Daniel was survived by his beloved wife 5
Page Brickley; his sons Roger D. and Scott Daniel; his grandchildren John Thomas, Scott 6
Triplett, Kash, Julia Page, and Samuel Roger Daniel; his siblings Jimmy Ray Short, 7
Debbie Kay Wheeler, Joan Cox, and Beverly Davis; and many other friends and family 8
members who cherished him deeply; and 9
WHEREAS, Tucker Daniel was loved and will be missed by the community of 10
Johnson County, and his memory and many contributio ns to the county are worthy of 11
tangible recognition; 12
NOW, THEREFORE, 13
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 14
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate a portion of Kentucky 15
Route 40 in Johnson County, from United States Route 460 to Kentucky Route 321, as 16
the "Tucker Daniel Memorial Highway" and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of 17
this Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 18
