A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Hospital Corpsman Fred Lamarr Salyer 1
Memorial Highway in Magoffin County. 2
WHEREAS, Fred Lamarr Salyer was born on March 25, 194 7, the son of Glen and 3
Lerlean Caudill Salyer; and 4
WHEREAS, Fred Lamarr Salyer answered his nation's call to service during the 5
Vietnam War, serving as Hospital Corpsman with the United States Marines; and 6
WHEREAS, on February 6th, 1968, in Thua Thien, Sou th Vietnam, Fred Lamarr 7
Salyer was killed in an explosion just two months shy of his 21st birthday; and 8
WHEREAS, in honor of his service, Fred Lamarr Salyer was awarded the Medical 9
Corpsman Badge, the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the 10
Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnamese Gallantry 11
Cross Unit Citation; and 12
WHEREAS, the service, dedication, and sacrifice of Hospital Corpsman Fred 13
Lamarr Salyer is indeed worthy of public recognition, and Magoffin Count y has 14
requested the designation of a memorial highway in his honor; 15
NOW, THEREFORE, 16
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 17
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate United States Route 460 18
in Magoffin County, from mile point 10.49 to mile point 10.836, as the "Hospital 19
Corpsman Fred Lamarr Salyer Memorial Highway" and shall, within 30 days of the 20
effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation. 21
