A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the James "Jim" Mahan Memorial Highway 1
in Fayette County. 2
WHEREAS, James R. Mahan, known to friends and family as "Jim" left these 3
earthly bounds on August 29, 2025, at the age of 81; and 4
WHEREAS, Jim Mahan was a retired farmer who played an active role in 5
Kentucky’s agricultural community throughout his life; and 6
WHEREAS, Jim Mahan graduated from the University of Kentucky (UK) Colleg e 7
of Agriculture where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta, the Alpha Zeta Honor 8
Society, Block and Bridle, and the UK Marching Band as its drum major; and 9
WHEREAS, Jim Mahan served as president of the Thoroughbred Farm Manager’s 10
Club, the Fayette County Fa rm Bureau, and UK’s College of Agriculture Alumni 11
Association; and 12
WHEREAS, Jim Mahan also served on the Fayette County Extension Council, the 13
4-H Council, the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, and the Kentucky Farm 14
Bureau Insurance Board, and was a member of the Lions Club; and 15
WHEREAS, Jim Mahan was a lifelong member of Maxwell Street Presbyterian 16
Church, where he served as Elder; and 17
WHEREAS, the passing of Jim Mahan was deeply felt by his family, friends, and 18
the entire community, and his life of achievement is worthy of tangible public 19
recognition; 20
NOW, THEREFORE, 21
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate Kentucky Route 353 in 23
Fayette County, from the intersection with Kentucky Route 1962 (mile point 7.100) to 24
the Fayette/Bourbon County line (mile point 11.113), as the "James 'Jim' Mahan 25
Memorial Highway, and s hall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, 26
erect appropriate signs denoting this designation. 27
