A RESOLUTION recognizing September 17 to 23, 2026, as Constitution Week in 1
the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States is the guar dian of our liberties 3
and embodiment of the principles of limited government in a republic dedicated to rule 4
by law; and 5
WHEREAS, during the summer of 1787, 55 delegates from across the young 6
United States convened at the Pennsylvania State House in Philad elphia with the purpose 7
of establishing a government designed to endure for generations and safeguard the 8
cherished freedoms won through the Revolutionary War; and 9
WHEREAS, the result of their efforts, the Constitution of the United States stands 10
as the fo undation of our nation’s government and establishes the principles of equality 11
under the law and a steadfast dedication to individual liberty; and 12
WHEREAS, our rights and liberties are rooted in the Bill of Rights, the first 10 13
amendments to the Constituti on of the United States, and we, as Americans, enjoy our 14
freedoms and the protections of the rule of law through the fundamental principles 15
established in those cherished documents by our founding fathers; and 16
WHEREAS, September 17, 2026, marks the 239th anniversary of the signing of the 17
Constitution of the United States by the delegates to the Constitutional Convention; and 18
WHEREAS, celebration of the Constitution of the United States began in 1955 19
when the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned C ongress to set aside 20
September 17 to 23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week; 21
and 22
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to our nation's 23
magnificent founding document and the anniversary of its inceptio n, and to the patriotic 24
celebrations which will commemorate it; and 25
WHEREAS, it is fitting that we, the citizens of Kentucky, join the Daughters of the 26
American Revolution in observing Constitution Week from September 17 to 23, 2026, to 27

reflect upon and reaffirm our commitment to the ideals enshrined in this foundational 1
document; and 2
WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives extend their deepest 3
appreciation to the members of the John Guill -Polly Hawkins Craig Chapter of the 4
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for their unwavering dedication 5
to celebrating our nation's history and hosting Constitution Week celebrations; 6
NOW, THEREFORE, 7
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 8
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 9
Section 1. The House of Representatives hereby recognizes September 17 to 23, 10
2026, as Constitution Week to celebrate the Constitution of the United States as the 11
cornerstone of our nation’s freedoms, embodying the principles set forth by the framers 12
in 1787. 13
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 14
copy of this Resolution to Representative Felicia Rabourn. 15
