A RESOLUTION recognizing July 11, 2026, as Remember Srebrenica Day in 1
Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives acknowledge the 3
valuable role and substantial impact Bosnian immigrants have in the Commonwealth; and 4
WHEREAS, the massacre in Srebrenica in July 1995, which resulted in the 5
systematic killing of over 8,000 Bosniak victims, has been recognized as an act of 6
genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia; and 7
WHEREAS, Kentucky has become home to many Bosnians who fled due to the 8
war and ethnic cleansing that took place in the 1990s, and who have become integral 9
members of communities in the Commonwealth; and 10
WHEREAS, many members of Kentucky's Bosnian community are survivors or 11
descendants of survivors of the genocide, carrying with them memories of unimaginable 12
loss and pain; and 13
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky seeks to promote awareness of 14
genocides, supp ort educational efforts, and foster a commitment to preventing similar 15
acts from occurring in the future; 16
NOW, THEREFORE, 17
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 18
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 19
Section 1. The House of Representatives recognizes the importance of 20
acknowledgment and remembrance of such atrocities by honoring the victims and 21
ensuring that such events are never forgotten. 22
Section 2. The members of the House of Representatives hereby recognize July 23
11, 2026, as Remember Srebrenica Day in Kentucky. 24
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 25
copy of this Resolution to Representative Robert Duvall. 26
