A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Melvin Ferrell Memorial Highway in 1
Pike County. 2
WHEREAS, Melvin Ferrell was born on April 28, 1948, to the late Hattie Ferrell 3
and John C. Ferrell in the city of Majestic, Kentucky; and 4
WHEREAS, Melvin Ferrell spent his entire career in the mining industry with the 5
Caney Branch Coal Company in his home county of Pike; and 6
WHEREAS, Melvin Ferrell also devoted more than 40 years of h is life serving the 7
community of Pike County as a deputy sheriff with the Pike County Sheriff's Office; and 8
WHEREAS, Melvin Ferrell took much joy in life spending time with his dear 9
family, attending services faithfully as a member of Stopover Freewill Bap tist Church, 10
riding ATVs when he was able, and taking road trips to admire the Commonwealth and 11
other states across the nation; and 12
WHEREAS, Melvin Ferrell left this world to meet his heavenly Father on 13
December 28, 2025, and is survived by his dear wife, Ann Jean Ferrell; his son, Hershel 14
(fiancé Angela Wolford) Rife; his daughter, Traci Ferrell; his sister, Janie Lou (Eddie) 15
Hurley; and his grandchildren, Colby Stump, Haley Diamond, Cambria Smith, Kentlie 16
Smith, Kiana Ferrell, and Kylie Ferrell; and 17
WHEREAS, Melvin Ferrell is dearly missed by his many family members, his dear 18
friends, and the community of Pike County, and his memory is worth tangible 19
recognition in the county; 20
NOW, THEREFORE, 21
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate a portion of KY -194 in 23
Pike County, from mile marker 67.3 to mile marker 72.1 as the "Melvin Ferrell Memorial 24
Highway" and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect 25
appropriate signage denoting this designation. 26
