A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Destiney Brewer Memorial Highway in 1
Martin County. 2
WHEREAS, Destiney Brewer was born on November 2, 1999, in Huntington, West 3
Virginia; and 4
WHEREAS, Destiney Brewer was a bright and talented child who enjoyed singing, 5
dance, cheerleading, soccer, and performing in talent shows; and 6
WHEREAS, Destiney Brewer was the first child from Martin County to perform 7
the role of Clara in the Nutcracker at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, 8
Kentucky; and 9
WHEREAS, Destiney Brewer brought a special sparkle with her wherever she went 10
with her beautiful smile and generous, loving heart; and 11
WHEREAS, on June 25, 2010, Destiney Brewer was rid ing home from a summer 12
day at the swimming pool with her grandmother, when a driver under the influence 13
collided with the vehicle head-on; and 14
WHEREAS, on June 28, 2010, Destiney Brewer succumbed to her injuries caused 15
by the tragic crash; and 16
WHEREAS, Des tiney Brewer, who would have turned 27 years old this year, 17
deserved to live a full and happy life, but that dream was tragically ended by the reckless 18
choices of a stranger when she was just 10 years old; and 19
WHEREAS, about 30% of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve 20
drunk drivers, and no family should know the pain of losing a child to a preventable 21
accident; and 22
WHEREAS, Destiney Brewer's life and stolen future are worthy of tangible 23
recognition and her memory serves as a reminder to all that driving under the influence is 24
never acceptable; 25
NOW, THEREFORE, 26
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 27

Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate a portion of Kentucky 1
Route 40 in Martin County, from mile point 12.7 to mile point 13, as a memorial 2
highway and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect 3
appropriate signage denot ing this designation. The signs erected under this section shall 4
read: 5
"Destiney Brewer 6
Memorial Highway 7
DUI Awareness". 8
