A RESOLUTION recognizing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day at the State 1

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day at the State Capitol is a national 3
program th rough which Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority members throughout the United 4
States meet with their legislators to address issues that are pertinent to their communities; 5
and 6
WHEREAS, founded in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is a noteworthy 7
organization whose achievements in community service have redounded to the benefit of 8
the public good; and 9
WHEREAS, the record of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s origin, growth and development, 10
activities, evolving goals, and accomplishments is more than an interesting chronicle o f a 11
colorful bit of college-based Americana. It is, rather, a significant and inspiring reflection 12
of the development of a minority group in a changing culture; and 13
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's unending quest to be "Supreme in 14
Service to All Manki nd" spans across domestic and international boundaries through the 15
service of members of more than 1,115 chapters around the world; and 16
WHEREAS, the state of Kentucky hosts 18 of these chapters on college and 17
university campuses and has active alumnae groups throughout the state; and 18
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is a union of 390,000 energetic, 19
ambitious, and dedicated college -trained women who have consciously chosen this 20
affiliation to promote community initiatives that strengthen the bonds of sisterhood in 21
support of their service mission, empower families, build economic wealth, enhance the 22
environment, advocate for social justice, and uplift the community; and 23
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the members of the Senate to honor those 24
estimable organizations whose outstanding contributions to this Commonwealth have 25
greatly benefited their fellow citizens; and 26
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha 27

Sorority, Inc., for 118 years of exemplary leadership and outstanding community service, 1
and to recognize Thursday, March 5, 2026, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day at the 2
State Capitol; 3
NOW, THEREFORE, 4
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 5
Kentucky: 6
Section 1. The Senate recognizes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day at the State 7
Capitol, March 5, 2026, and welcomes the members of the Kentucky chapters of this 8
national organization who are visiting the Capitol today. 9
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 10
Resolution to Senator Gerald Neal for delivery. 11
