Thomas "Tom" Shelton. 2
WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas "Tom" Shelton was born on December 13, 1963, in 3
Princeton, Kentucky, to the late Thomas Leslie and Jo Anne Shelton; and 4
WHEREAS, Tom Shelton was known for his earnest commitment to strengthening 5
public education across the Commonwealth; and 6
WHEREAS, Tom Shelton spent much of his life dedicated to Kentucky' s public 7
schools, serving students, educators, and communities as a superintendent, statewide 8
education leader, and trusted advocate; and 9
WHEREAS, Tom Shelton was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, 10
brother, son, colleague, mentor, and friend; and 11
WHEREAS, Tom Shelton is survived by his wife, Sharon Hays; daughters, Abby 12
(Justin) Sizemore and Audrey Shelton; granddaughters, Ann-Thomas and Edie Sizemore; 13
sister, Debbie Shelton Miller; former wife, Gwen (Heather Thomsen) Shelton; and step -14
children, Austin and Grace England; and 15
WHEREAS, Tom Shelton passed from this earthly life at the age of 62 on February 16
8, 2026, and will be deeply missed by those he left behind; 17
NOW, THEREFORE, 18
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 19
Kentucky: 20
Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby express their most profound 21
sympathy upon the passing of Dr. Thomas "Tom" Shelton. 22
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 23
memory of Dr. Thomas "Tom" Shelton. 24
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 25
Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas for delivery to the family. 26
