A RESOLUTION recognizing March 2, 2026, as Read Across America Day. 1
WHEREAS, reading is the building block to learning and the foundation for future 2
success; and 3
WHEREAS, this distinguished body desires that all Kentucky students develop a 4
love of reading; and 5
WHEREAS, in 1998, the National Education Association introduced the Read 6
Across America campaign to encourage children to read every day and to raise awareness 7
about the importance of reading; and 8
WHEREAS, Read Across America is a national celebration of reading that 9
improves students' vocabularies, promotes critical thinking skills, and inspires students to 10
embrace the joy of reading, and will be celebrated on March 2, 2026, in honor of the 11
birthday of Dr. Seuss; and 12
WHEREAS, local schools, libraries, bookstores, businesses, and other community 13
organizations will commemorate Read Across America Day by hosting a variety of fun 14
and engaging events; and 15
WHEREAS, students, parents, teachers, sports figures, celebrities, and business and 16
community leaders are taking part in Read Across America events to celebrate the joy of 17
reading and to encourage students in their endeavor to learn strong reading skills; 18
NOW, THEREFORE, 19
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 20
Kentucky: 21
Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby recognize March 2, 2026, as Read 22
Across America Day. 23
Section 2. The members of the Senate enthusiastically endorse Read Across 24
America and encourage the citizens of the Commonwealth t o engage in programs and 25
activities to make America's children the best readers in the world. 26
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 27
