A RESOLUTION designating February 23 to February 27, 2026, as Public Schools 1
Week in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, public education is a significant inst itution in a 21st century 3
democracy; and 4
WHEREAS, public schools educate students about the values and beliefs that hold 5
the individuals of the United States together as a nation; and 6
WHEREAS, public schools prepare the young men and women of the United St ates 7
to contribute to the society, economy, and citizenry of the country; and 8
WHEREAS, 87 percent of children in the United States attend public schools; and 9
WHEREAS, federal, state, and local lawmakers should prioritize support for 10
strengthening the publi c schools of the United States and empower superintendents, 11
principals, and other school leaders to implement, manage, and lead school districts and 12
schools in partnership with educators, parents, and other local education stakeholders. In 13
addition, legisl ators should support services and programs that are critical to helping 14
students engage in learning, including counseling, extracurricular activities, and mental 15
health support; and 16
WHEREAS, Congress should support efforts to advance equal opportunity and 17
excellence in public education, efforts to implement evidence -based practices in public 18
education, and continuous improvements to public education; and 19
WHEREAS, public schools should foster inclusive, safe, and high -quality 20
environments in which children c an learn to think critically, problem solve, and build 21
relationships; and 22
WHEREAS, public schools should provide environments in which all students have 23
the opportunity to succeed in their most formative early years of life, regardless of who a 24
student is or where a student lives; and 25
WHEREAS, every child should attend a school that offers a high -quality 26
educational experience that prepares them to reach their full potential; and 27

WHEREAS, federal funding, in addition to state and local funds, allows students to 1
access inviting classrooms, well -prepared educators, and services to support their health 2
and well-being, including nutrition and afterschool programs; and 3
WHEREAS, teachers, paraprofessionals, and principals should provide students 4
with a well-rounded education and strive to create joy in learning; and 5
WHEREAS, superintendents, principals, other sc hool leaders, teachers, 6
paraprofessionals, and parents make public schools vital components of communities and 7
work to improve educational outcomes for children across the country; 8
NOW, THEREFORE, 9
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 10
Kentucky: 11
Section 1. The Senate hereby designates February 23 to February 27, 2026, as 12
Public Schools Week in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 13
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 14
Resolution to Senator Brandon Storm. 15
