A RESOLUTION recognizing and honoring Norton Children's for its commitment 1
to serving children and families. 2
WHEREAS, Norton Children's is a leader in caring for c hildren throughout the 3
Commonwealth, Southern Indiana, and beyond; and 4
WHEREAS, as the state's only full -service, free-standing pediatric hospital, Norton 5
Children's Hospital, along with its predecessor hospitals, has cared for children for more 6
than a century without regard to their families' ability to pay; and 7
WHEREAS, the 300 -bed hospital is Louisville’s only level I pediatric trauma 8
center, and serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for the University of 9
Louisville School of Medicine; and 10
WHEREAS, the Norton Children’s system offers comprehensive inpatient and 11
outpatient pediatric care, including a full range of services for congenital and acquired 12
heart disease, cancer care, neurosciences, spine and orthopedic care, and neonatal care; 13
and 14
WHEREAS, Norton Children's serves over 200,000 patients each year; and 15
WHEREAS, in 2024, nearly 2,000 critically ill and premature infants spent the first 16
weeks of their lives in a Norton Children’s neonatal intensive care unit; and 17
WHEREAS, Norton Children’ s has announced plans for a new care campus and a 18
second dedicated pediatric hospital in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, to serve children across 19
Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and beyond; and 20
WHEREAS, the new campus will be focused on providing services to children with 21
complex medical, behavioral, and mental health needs, as well as an expanded space for 22
specialty services and a research facility to focus on developing new treatments and cures 23
for childhood conditions; and 24
WHEREAS, Norton Children’s is currently holding listening and learning sessions 25
across the Commonwealth and Southern Indiana to gather ideas and information about 26
the needs of their communities relating to pediatric care; and 27

WHEREAS, this new development is a once in a generation opportunity to 1
transform the delivery of pediatric healthcare across the Commonwealth and beyond; 2
NOW, THEREFORE, 3
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 4
Kentucky: 5
Section 1. The Senate hereby recognizes and honors Norton Children's for its 6
long and distinguished history of serving children and families. 7
Section 2. The Senate applauds Norton Children's vision for the development of 8
a world-class pediatric hospital and health care campus, and expresses strong support for 9
its mission, vision, and values for serving children and families. 10
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 11
Resolution to Senator Julie Raque Adams for delivery. 12
