A RESOLUTION designating March 2026 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 1
in Kentucky. 2
WHEREAS, Dr. Scott Farnsworth, the board chair of the Colon Cancer Prevention 3
Project, is a colorectal cancer survivor; and 4
WHEREAS, for over 22 years the project has worked to end preventable colorectal 5
cancer deaths and suffering in Kentucky by increasing effective screenings; and 6
WHEREAS, each year an average of 650 fewer Kentuck ians are diagnosed with 7
colorectal cancer and 275 fewer Kentuckians die from colorectal cancer due to these 8
efforts; and 9
WHEREAS, Dr. Farnsworth and the Colon Cancer Prevention Project are saving 10
numerous lives in Kentucky through advocacy, education, heal th system improvement, 11
and survivor support; and 12
WHEREAS, the General Assembly and citizens of Kentucky are immensely 13
grateful for the dedicated efforts and commitment of the Colon Cancer Prevention 14
Project; and 15
WHEREAS, colorectal cancer remains the secon d leading cause of cancer -related 16
deaths in men and women in Kentucky, and Kentucky currently ranks among the highest 17
in the nation in colorectal cancer mortality; and 18
WHEREAS, by 2030, colorectal cancer is projected to be the leading cause of 19
cancer deaths for persons 20 to 49 years old; and 20
WHEREAS, Kentucky continues to have the highest incidence of colorectal cancer 21
in the United States; and 22
WHEREAS, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month is observed in March to highlight 23
the importance of screening for colorectal cancer, as well as to promote healthy lifestyle 24
habits that can decrease a person's risk of developing colorectal cancer; 25
NOW, THEREFORE, 26
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 27

Section 1. The Senate hereby honors Dr. Scott Farnsw orth and the exceptional 2
work of the Colon Cancer Prevention Project in saving lives in Kentucky and encourages 3
continued support for efforts to eliminate deaths from colorectal cancer. 4
Section 2. The Senate hereby desig nates March 2026 as Colorectal Cancer 5
Awareness Month in Kentucky. 6
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 7
Resolution to Senator Scott Madon. 8
