A RESOLUTION honoring the Kentucky School Boards Association on the 1
occasion of its 90th anniversary. 2
WHEREAS, the Kentucky School Boards Association was establish ed in 1936, 3
when a group of locally elected school board members came together to address issues 4
affecting public education and local governance in the Commonwealth; and 5
WHEREAS, during the past 90 years, the Kentucky School Boards Association has 6
provided support and services that empower local school boards to meet the needs of 7
their communities’ children, encourage support for public schools, facilitate 8
communication among districts, and serve as an advocate for boards of education before 9
the General Assembly and other governmental bodies; and 10
WHEREAS, the Kentucky School Boards Association continues to provide 11
training, policy guidance, communication, and other services that equip local school 12
boards with the information and tools necessary to govern eff ectively and advance 13
student achievement across the Commonwealth; and 14
WHEREAS, the association represents 171 school boards comprised of 857 locally 15
elected school board members, which collectively forms the largest body of elected 16
officials in the Commonw ealth and exemplifies the importance of local leadership in 17
public education; and 18
WHEREAS, throughout its history, the Kentucky School Boards Association has 19
contributed to the development of civic leadership in Kentucky, with many school board 20
members going on to serve their communities and the Commonwealth in other capacities, 21
including service in both chambers of the General Assembly; 22
NOW, THEREFORE, 23
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 24
Kentucky: 25
Section 1. The Senate hereby honors the Kentucky School Boards Association 26
on the occasion of its 90th anniversary. 27

Section 2. The Senate hereby commends the Kentucky School Boards 1
Association for its 90 years of service to the Commonwealth and for its enduring 2
commitment to strengthening local school governance, supporting Kentucky’s public 3
schools, and promoting educational opportunities for all students. 4
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the 90th 5
anniversary of the Kentucky School Boards Association and in appreciation of the 6
dedicated service of Kentucky’s locally elected school board members. 7
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 8
Resolution to Senator Jason Howell for delivery to the Kentucky School Boards 9
Association. 10
