A RESOLUTION congratulating The Goat Project at Vaughn's Branch/Oxford 1
Circle on winning the Environmental Commission of Lexington -Fayette Urban County 2
Government's Outstanding Project in Sustainability Award. 3
WHEREAS, each spring, the communities of Vaughn's Branch and Oxford Circle 4
in Lexington, come together to remove trash and debris from the area to prepare for a 5
herd of goats to inhabit the area; and 6
WHEREAS, Paula Singer and David Neville, who provide the goats for The Goat 7
Project, display sustainability in action, a commitment to urban agriculture and 8
agritourism that has resulted in a rejuvenated neighborhood space; and 9
WHEREAS, for many years, the Vaughn's Branch/Oxford Circle neighborhood was 10
overgrown, neglected, and littered with trash but thanks to the community's welcome of 11
The Goat Project, the neighborhood is now a well -kept and valued recreational space for 12
all to enjoy; and 13
WHEREAS, The Goat Projec t was recognized as an Outstanding Project in 14
Sustainability at the Environmental Commission of the Lexington -Fayette Urban County 15
Government's 2025 Environmental Awards Breakfast on June 25, 2025. Projects 16
recognized in this award category demonstrate int egration of the three pillars of 17
sustainability: environmental benefit, social responsibility, and economic viability; and 18
WHEREAS, The Goat Project's success within the Vaughn's Branch/Oxford Circle 19
neighborhood is proof of the positive change that urban agriculture and community 20
action, working together, can have on both the environment and the culture of a 21
community; 22
NOW, THEREFORE, 23
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 24
Kentucky: 25
Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator Reginald Thomas in 26
honoring The Goat Project for being awarded the Environmental Commission of the 27
