A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and memory of the life and 1
sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, who paid the ultimate price in service to 2
our nation. 3
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, 26, of Glendale, Kentucky, was 4
stationed in Saudi Arabia at the Prince Sultan Air Base in support of Operation Epic Fury 5
when it was attacked by Iranian drones and missiles on March 1, 2026. He was g ravely 6
injured and succumbed to his injuries on March 8; and 7
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington enlisted in the United States 8
Army in 2017 as a unit supply specialist assigned to the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space 9
Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado; and 10
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington was a decorated member of the 11
United States Army's elite 1st Space Brigade involving crucial air defense systems. The 12
United States Army Space Brigade, stationed across six countries around the world, aids 13
in the military's ability in missile warning, GPS tracking, and long -haul satellite 14
communications to troops; and 15
WHEREAS, commanding general Lieutenant General Sean Gainey said, "The U.S. 16
Army Space and Missile Defense Command is deeply saddened by the los s of Sergeant 17
Pennington. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for the country he loved. That makes him 18
nothing less than a hero, and he will always be remembered that way."; and 19
WHEREAS, 1st Space Brigade commander Colonel Michael Dyer described Staff 20
Sergeant Pennington as "a dedicated and experienced" officer, who "led with strength, 21
professionalism, and sense of duty." Sergeant Benjamin Pennington was posthumously 22
promoted to staff sergeant; and 23
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington paid the ultimate pr ice in service 24
to our nation and will be greatly missed by family and friends; 25
NOW, THEREFORE, 26
