A RESOLUTION honoring Blake Burnett, recipient of the 2026 Wallace "Wah 1
Wah" Jones Award. 2
WHEREAS, Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones, Sr. was a two -sport All-American at the 3
University of Kentucky, playing for legendary coaches Adolph Rupp and Bear Bryant, 4
winning two national championships with the Wildcats basketball squad. Jones is the 5
only player at the University of Kentucky to have his jerseys retired in both sports an d 6
also was a pitcher with the Wildcats baseball team and a member of the UK track and 7
field team; and 8
WHEREAS, since 2014, the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and the Jones family 9
have presented the Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones Award to the outstanding Kentucky h igh 10
school senior multi -sport athlete who excels equally in the classroom and contributes 11
greatly to the community; and 12
WHEREAS, the recipient of the 2026 Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones Award is Blake 13
Burnett from Bell County High School; and 14
WHEREAS, Blake Burne tt was the starting quarterback and free safety for his 15
entire four years of high school, during which time he threw for nearly 4,300 yards and 16
48 touchdowns, with only 10 total interceptions. He also rushed 210 times for 17
approximately 1,500 yards and an additional 24 touchdowns. Defensively, Blake Burnett, 18
recorded more than 180 tackles and his 28 career interceptions ranks third in Kentucky 19
high school history; and 20
WHEREAS, during his high school football career, Blake Burnett never missed a 21
game, and he led the Bobcats to a remarkable record of 46 wins and only 9 losses, two 22
regional championships, and one state finals appearance; and 23
WHEREAS, on the hardwood, Blake Burnett has been a four -year leader as a 24
starting point guard, and has led the team in bo th scoring and rebounding the past two 25
seasons as the Bobcats' all-time leading scorer with over 2,000 career points; and 26
WHEREAS, Blake Burnett led the Bobcats to a record of 27 wins and 7 losses this 27

season, with the team winning the 52nd District champi onship and finishing as runners -1
up in the 13th Region; and 2
WHEREAS, on the baseball diamond, Blake B urnett has been a key contributor 3
during some challenging years for the program. Beginning when he was in 8th grade, and 4
over his four years as a starter, Blake has accumulated 250 career strikeouts and 92 career 5
hits as he enters his final season this spring; and 6
WHEREAS, Blake Burnett also excels academically, earning a 4.2 grade point 7
average, ranking in the top 10 of his senior class, and having 40 college credit hours to 8
his name; and 9
WHEREAS, Blake Burnett has been a leader on the playing field, in th e classroom, 10
and in the community, and his basketball coach, Brad Sizemore, summed up what makes 11
him special, "He has been a pleasure to coach. Blake is not only a great player but also a 12
first-class young man. He is the standard for what you want in your student-athlete, and 13
he is someone who has had a major impact not just on the boys' basketball program, but 14
our school and several other sports programs. I am proud of how he has always done 15
things the right way and put others first."; and 16
WHEREAS, Blake B urnett's work ethic, leadership, and a record of achievement 17
are indeed worthy of public recognition; 18
NOW, THEREFORE, 19
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 20
Kentucky: 21
Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator Scott Madon in 22
congratulating Blake Burnett upon the occasion of winning the 2026 Wallace "Wah 23
Wah" Jones Award, lauding his impressive athletic and academic achievements, and 24
wishing him good fortune in all future endeavors. 25
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to 26
Senator Scott Madon for presentation to Blake Burnett. 27
