A RESOLUTION recognizing and honoring Chloe Yates for her advocacy in her 1
"Special Olympics – Deleting the 'Dis' in Disabled" community service initiative. 2
WHEREAS, according to the World Health Organization, approximately 1 in 6 3
people worldwide experience some form of physical or intellectual disability, and 4
individuals with different abilities deserve opportunities for inclusion, respect, and 5
community participation; and 6
WHEREAS, organizations such as the Special Olympics provide meaningful 7
opportunities for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities to participate in 8
sports, build confidence, develop friendships, and demonstrate their ability; and 9
WHEREAS, the mission and values of the Special Olympics promote the idea that 10
disabilities should not define individuals, but rather that their abilities, courage, and 11
determination should be celebrated; and 12
WHEREAS, personal experiences with Special Olympi c athletes demonstrate the 13
powerful impact of inclusion, perseverance, and kindness, and highlight the importance 14
of creating communities that recognize the value and potential of every individual; and 15
WHEREAS, community initiatives, such as Chloe Yates' " Special Olympics – 16
Deleting the 'Dis' in Disabled," have successfully recruited athletes and volunteers, 17
fostered meaningful one-on-one friendships, and shared athlete stories to inspire broader 18
support for individuals with different abilities; and 19
WHEREAS, the motto of the Special Olympics, "Let me win. But if I cannot win, 20
let me be brave in the attempt," reflects the courage, determination, and resilience that 21
these athletes demonstrate every day; and 22
WHEREAS, communities, organizations, and individuals should actively support 23
and promote the mission of the Special Olympics, advocating for inclusion, accessibility, 24
and opportunities for individuals with special needs to participate fully in sports and 25
community life; and 26
WHEREAS, individuals and organizations should encourage volunteerism, 27

mentorship, and community engagement with Special Olympic programs to build lasting 1
relationships and provide meaningful support for athletes of all abilities; and 2
WHEREAS, increased awa reness and advocacy for individuals with different 3
abilities will help create a more inclusive society where everyone is valued for their 4
strengths, talents, and contributions; and 5
WHEREAS, through continued advocacy, service, and awareness, we can help 6
created a world where individuals with different abilities are not defined by limitations, 7
but celebrated for their courage, determination, and incredible potential; 8
NOW, THEREFORE, 9
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 10
Kentucky: 11
Section 1. The members of the Senate recognize Chloe Yates for her advocacy 12
in her "Special Olympics – Deleting the 'Dis' in Disabled" community service initiative in 13
honor of her cousin Parr Burton, who has participated in the horseback riding division of 14
the Special Olympics. 15
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 16
Resolution to Senator Lindsey Tichenor. 17
