A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Valentino 1
"Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao. 2
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao was born in the state of New 3
York on June 26, 1960, to Valentino Sombiro Simpao, M.D., and Diane Felice Villone 4
Simpao, L.P.N., the firstborn of 9 beloved children; and 5
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao spent his early childhood 6
moving with his family fro m New York to Paris, Kentucky, then to Calhoun, Kentucky, 7
and eventually to Greenville, Kentucky, graduating from Greenville High School; and 8
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao continued his education next 9
at the Institute of Technology in Evan sville, Indiana, and then at the University of 10
Evansville, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, where he began his life's work as a 11
consultant in areas of theoretical and mathematical physics; and 12
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao ultimately ret urned to 13
Greenville, Kentucky, to become an Adjunct Professor at Western Kentucky University, 14
making contributions to his field both in publications and as a mentor for graduate 15
research; and 16
WHEREAS, while Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao had been cl assically 17
trained as a physicist, his intelligence seemed to come from somewhere deeper than 18
formal education alone. His vast intellect was innate, difficult to categorize, and 19
expansive. His mind moved fluidly between worlds, and though one might describe his 20
capacity through the frameworks of linguistic, logical -mathematical, musical, and 21
creative thought, yet even those explanations fall short. Science was his art, and art was 22
his science; and 23
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao was equally mo ved by 24
Mozart and Nirvana, appreciated the sonnets of Shakespeare, and delighted in the humor 25
and absurd brilliance of Monty Python. He could draw you into explanations of both the 26
visible and the unseen, patiently working through ideas until understanding emerged, and 27

that ability to bridge worlds, between high philosophy and humor and rigorous science 1
and creative imagination, was one of his gifts; and 2
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao had a remarkable ability to 3
listen and to help others art iculate ideas that were difficult to express and acted as a 4
master of cognitive mediation, helping others to frame their thoughts and to see 5
perspectives more clearly. Because he could see beyond boundaries, he helped others 6
learn to see beyond them as well; and 7
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao had the sweetest soul that 8
was made both tende r and strengthened by his faith, a quiet, yet firm reverence to God 9
and to God's will even in the hardest of times. His love for God kept his soul cheerful, 10
jovial, and deeply generous, his heart faithful and prayerful, and his mind resilient; and 11
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao was preceded in death by his 12
father, Valentino Sombiro Simpao; his maternal grandparents, Carmen Mario Villone and 13
Diane Laverne Villone; his paternal grandparents, Gregorio Simpao and Purificacion 14
Sombiro Simpao; and his younger brother, Joseph Gregory Simpao; and 15
WHEREAS, Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao is survived by his mother, 16
Diane Villone Simpao; his siblings, Holly (Jonathan) Strelzik, Terri (Carl) Paige, Phillip 17
(Rose) Simpao, and Frances (Darby) Crawfo rd; 13 nieces and nephews; and 4 great -18
nieces and nephews; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 21
Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The Senate extends its deepest sympathy upon the passing of 23
Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao, and expresses heartfelt condolences to all his 24
family, friends, and community. 25
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns th is day, it does so in honor and loving 26
memory of Valentino "Tony" Anthony Peter Simpao. 27
